In compliance with the “Timely Notice” provisions of the Federal Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act, the Auraria Higher Education Center located in downtown Denver is issuing the following notice of a crime that occurred on or adjacent to the Auraria Campus.


Monday, November 5, 2018
AGGRAVATED ASSAULT (DOMESTIC VIOLENCE) - NORTH CLASSROOM

Timely Warning #6-2018

REPORTED OFFENSE: Auraria Campus Police are investigating an alleged aggravated assault/domestic violence incident that occurred on Monday, November 5, 2018 between 7:30 p.m. and 7:45 p.m.  It occurred near the entry to the northeast side “hook” of North Classroom. The victim states that they were hit by their boyfriend in the face, possibly breaking the victim’s nose. The victim is receiving medical attention for their injuries.  A map showing the location of the alleged crime can be found here.

SUSPECTS: Based upon witnesses in the area who chased them, the suspect is described as a white male, with long brown hair, wearing a jean jacket. He fled the scene into the interior of the North Classroom building, and then exited out the south side. Auraria Campus Police and the Denver Police Department are searching for the suspect and reviewing video footage of the area.

The Auraria Campus Police Department has identified and arrested a suspect in this case.

SEX ASSAULT - WEST CLASSROOM
Timely Warning #5-2018

REPORTED OFFENSE: Auraria Campus Police are investigating an anonymous report of an alleged sexual assault that occurred on Tuesday, October 30, 2018. It occurred in or around the west side of the second floor of the West Classroom. The victim states that they were leaving class when they were approached by the suspect and assaulted. While the crime allegedly occurred on Tuesday, it was just reported to the Auraria Campus Police this afternoon via an online, anonymous crime report. We are sharing this report as police are seeking any information about this incident or similar incidents.  A map showing the location of the alleged crime can be found here.

SUSPECT: The suspect is described as male, brown hair, about 5’8” and 135 pounds.

UPDATE: Tuesday, November 6, 2018 | 4:10 p.m.
The Auraria Campus Police Department, upon further investigation, has found that this crime did not occur. Rather, it was a false report with malicious intent. The reporting party has been identified, and has confessed to making a false report.

FORCIBLE FONDLING - WEST SIDE OF AURARIA LIBRARY
Timely Warning #4-2018                      

REPORTED OFFENSE: Auraria Campus Police are investigating an alleged forcible fondling/sex offense that occurred at approximately 2:20 pm on Sunday, October 7, 2018. The suspect was riding a bicycle northbound on 10th Street on the west side of the Auraria Library. He approached the victim from behind and grabbed their buttocks. He then rode about 20 feet ahead, and turned around to try and speak to the victim. The victim threatened to call the police, and the suspect left the area on bike towards the south.

SUSPECT: The suspect is described as an African American male, wearing a red hoodie sweatshirt with the hood up, black pants, and red shoes.  The suspect was riding a black BMX-style bicycle. Police reviewed surveillance camera footage after the fact, and saw the suspect ride south from the scene on 10th Street to Colfax, west on Colfax to Mariposa, and south on Mariposa away from the campus. ACPD and Denver Police have been unable to locate the suspect. A picture of the suspect can be found here.

The suspect in this case was located by the Auraria Campus Police Department and has been taken in to custody.
 


Monday, September 10, 2018
SIMPLE ASSAULT/HATE CRIME IN AURARIA LIBRARY
Timely Warning #3-2018                       

REPORTED OFFENSE: Auraria Campus Police are investigating an alleged simple assault and Hate Crime that occurred at approximately 11:14 a.m. on Monday, September 10, 2018. There was an altercation between the suspect and victim over a chair in the Auraria Library; the suspect spit on the victim and used a racial slur. Because of the racial slur, this is classified as a Hate Crime by Clery definition, requiring the issuance of a Timely Warning. The suspect left the library through the north side main entrance. SUSPECTS: The suspect is described as a white male, approximately 40–50 years old, wearing a gray t-shirt with black lettering, tan shorts, a black baseball hat, and a black backpack. Police searched the area and are reviewing surveillance camera footage, but have been unable to locate the suspect. A picture of the suspect can be found here.

The suspect involved in this investigation has been identified and located by the Auraria Campus Police Department; charges are pending.

AGGRAVATED ASSAULT IN LOT SPRUCE    

Timely Warning #2-2018                                  

REPORTED OFFENSE: Auraria Campus Police are investigating a reported assault that occurred at approximately 7:00 am on Monday, May 28, 2018. The victim was engaged in a verbal altercation with the suspect in the Spruce parking lot at 8th/Walnut. The suspect took his bicycle and shoved it against the victim, causing them to fall and strike their head on the asphalt. A map showing the location of the alleged crime can be found here. While the alleged crime occurred yesterday, additional analysis and information have determined that this crime constituted an aggravated assault rather than a simple assault.

SUSPECTS: The suspect is described as a white male, wearing dark jeans, a grey shirt, a grey baseball cap, and a purple backpack. Police searched the area at the time, and are reviewing surveillance camera footage, but have been unable to locate the suspect.  A picture of the suspect is here.

The Auraria Campus Police Department has identified a suspect in this assault; criminal charges are pending.


Wednesday, April 18, 2018 – Approximately 7:20 p.m.
FORCIBLE FONDLING IN PE/EVENTS CENTER BUILDING

Timely Warning #1-2018       

REPORTED OFFENSE: Auraria Campus Police are investigating a reported sex offense (forcible fondling) that occurred at approximately 7:20 pm on Wednesday, April 18, 2018. The victim reports that they were approached by a male that appeared to be dressed in jogging clothes.  The suspect proceeded to forcibly grab the victim’s buttocks, and then fled in an unknown direction. SUSPECT: The suspect is described as a Hispanic male, approximately 25 years old wearing a black jogging suit, black sunglasses, baseball cap, with longer than average hair. Police have searched the area, and are reviewing surveillance camera footage, but have been unable to locate the suspect. Pictures of the suspect can be found here and here.

UPDATE: Thursday, April 19, 2018 | 2:45 p.m.
As a result of the campus community’s attention to this Timely Warning from last night, a suspect was identified, and has been contacted and interviewed by the Auraria Campus Police Department. Due to the complexity of the investigation, charges are pending.
