Recycling & Waste Diversion

Compost, recycle, landfill.

Single-Stream Recycling

The Auraria Campus offers “single stream” recycling throughout campus. Aluminum, plastic containers, glass bottles, and paper alike can be placed into the same blue bin for recycling.

Plastic Bag Recycling

Recycle used plastic bags at any of the “Bring it Back” containers located outside of the Tivoli Station (formerly Auraria Campus Bookstore) in the Tivoli Student Union.

Cell Phone, Charger, and Battery Recycling

Recycle old cell phones, chargers, and batteries in the Tivoli Student Union. The drop-off box is located outside of the ID Center on the 2nd floor across from the Tivoli Station (formerly Auraria Campus Bookstore).

In addition to tree branches and other organic materials, the Auraria Campus is now composting food waste in the Tivoli food court thanks to the Sustainable Campus Program and their new “3-bin” waste, recycling, and composting bins. View Alpine Waste & Recyling’s complete list of what is compostable »

WasteWise Program

In 2012, the Auraria Higher Education Center partnered with the Environmental Protection Agency’s WasteWise and Food Recovery Challenge program with the commitment of increasing composting by at least 5% in 2013. Efforts to engage food vendors and customers alike are underway to raise awareness on what can be composted on campus.
