Troubleshooting AHEC Phones

PROBLEM:

POSSIBLE SOLUTION:

I am not getting phone calls.

Try one of the following:

  • Pick up the telephone, get dial tone, then dial "#" then "3" and hang up.
  • Pick up the telephone, get dial tone, then dial "#" then "2" and hang up.

My telephone doesn't ring.

First try the procedures above. If that does not resolve the problem, make sure the set is plugged into the wall jack on the A side (left). Next check that the ringer on/off switch is in the "ON" position. Finally, make sure the ringer volume is turned up.

When people call me, the call goes immediately to voice mail.

Pick up the telephone, get dial tone, then dial "#" then "3" and hang up.

My telephone doesn't have a dial tone.

Make sure all cords are plugged in properly. Plug in another telephone (must be the same set type) into the wall jack. If you do not get a dial tone, report the problem to your telecommunications coordinator.

When I try to make long distance calls, I hear a stutter dial tone after I dial the numbers.

The stutter dial tone after you dial the long distance numbers indicates that the telephone you are calling from is not authorized to place long distance calls. An authorization code must be entered after the stutter dial tone. If you need an authorization code, contact your telecommunications coordinator.

I hear a very short ring and when I answer none is there.

Pick up the telephone, get dial tone, then dial "#" then "2" and hang up.

When I try and retrieve my voice mail messages, the system tells me to contact the system administrator.

After three unsuccessful attempts to log into your voicemail box, the system security automatically locks the voicemail box. Contact your telecommunications coordinator to have the voice mailbox password reset.

My fax or modem doesn't have a dial tone.

Make sure all cords are plugged in properly. Plug an analog (basic beige) telephone set into the wall jack. If you do not get a dial tone, report the problem to your telecommunications coordinator.
